Are Prohormones Legal in India?

Firstly, prohormones are synthetic (man-made) compounds. On this website we use ‘prohormone’ to also include designer steroids. Both prohormones and designer steroids have similar effects but with different pathways in your body. For more, read our handy guide.

Prohormones are different to natural and herbal supplements which are taken as testosterone boosters. Prohormones effectively create ‘new’ testosterone in your body where as ‘boosters’ can only increase the availability of the hormones you already have.

Prohormones are popular as an alternative to anabolic steroids and are seen as safer and milder by many lifters.

But ‘safe’ doesn’t mean legal. Keep reading to find out more.

Prohormones Are Legal in India, But…

In India Prohormones are only sold under a prescription and can’t be legally bought and sold as performance enhancers.

Although prohormones are widely manufactured in India, this process is government regulated. Prohormones are made primarily for the medical market. This tough stance is in response to the widespread use of prohormones in India’s bodybuilding community.

The national government has also introduced campaigns to convince Indians to avoid prohormones and other synthetic muscle builders such as designer steroids.

In addition, Indian the government has put in place measures such as licensing to control the number of legal sellers of prohormones. To buy ‘over the counter’ you must produce a prescription before purchasing.  As a result, prohormone usage has decreased significantly.

So, are prohormones legal in India? Yes, but only if you have a prescription. If you haven’t been prescribed prohormones but still want to increase your testosterone, there may be some alternatives.

Alternatives to Prohormones

If you live in India, there may be legal alternatives to prohormones that you can try. These are unlikely to have the same effects but you may experience mild performance enhancing effects.

Although prohormones are banned in the USA, the compound Arimistane is not. Taking a supplement containing arimistane may increase muscle size, increase testosterone levels and improve sex drive. (Read our review here).

RED-PCT contains Arimistane as its main ingredient.

Alternatively you could look at using a natural compound. These can be a bit of a hit-and-miss when it comes to results. However I’ve taken SD-200 (Tongat ali) and noticed a mild positive effect. Read the review here.

None of this is legal advice and you should never break the law of your country. Always check that what you’re buying is legal in your home state before purchasing.

Lift strong and stay safe.

P.S. We’re fans of Red Supplements ‘RED-PCT’ which contains Arimistane. You can get it here.
