Has Arimistane Been Banned in the US?

best prohormones for beginners

Has the popular supplement arimistane been banned in the US? That’s an important question right now as arimistane and products containing arimistane have started to disappear from the shelves in many parts of the United States.

Arimistane is not a true prohormone and behaves in a different way to traditional prohormones. This meant that Arimistane and other products containing arimidex (Androsta 3,5-dien-7,17-dione) had, until recently, escaped a U.S. wide ban on prohormones.

Arimistane (arimidex) has long been a favorite ingredient for Post Cycle Therapy (PCT) products.

Arimistane Banned? What Changed

In the middle of 2018, some supplement manufacturers were contacted by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) over the marketing and packaging of Arimistane as a supplement as well as having anti-estrogenic effects.

While there’s a lot of debate online about whether the FDA’s approach correct, there are important things for people like you and me to be aware of:

  • Firstly, the attention of the FDA on Arimistane and supplements containing Androsta 3,5-dien-7,17-dione is bad news. Some have pointed to the FDA’s interest in DMAA (1,3 Dimethylamine – a powerful stimulant used in pre-workouts like Jack3d) which preceded a ban.
  • The warning letters to manufacturers have some running scared. It’s risky business to sell something that might be banned soon. This has led to supplement manufacturers pulling products or changing formulae (some of our US partners have done this already).
  • The FDA has pointed out that Arimistane doesn’t fit their definition of a supplement or of a prescription medication. So, in their world, it must be bad.

Meanwhile in the UK, arimistane (along with most prohormones) is still legal. So much for the Land of the Free, right?

Is Arimistane Banned in the US?

The short answer (for the time being) is, no – arimistane is not banned in the US. However that doesn’t tell the full story. The FDA are clearly on the warpath when it comes to this popular product and this has manufacturers running scared.

Perhaps it’s only a matter of time before it is unavailable to US lifters?

Thankfully, not all is lost. Things in the supplement world move fast and one of our brand partners, Red Supplements, have already released RED-PCT 2.0 which is an arimistane-free version of their popular Post Cycle Therapy supplement. You can buy it here.

There are also U.S. based retailers still willing to sell you Arimistane over the counter. Our American partner MySupplementStore.com is one of them. You can learn more and buy here.
